SHCC VILLAGE TOUR

The Siem Reap province is the main tourist destination in Cambodia. However, it is also one of the poorest, with very small amounts of the tourism income reaching those in the rural community.

The aim of our tours are to gather funds to put straight back into the rural community. By taking part in our tours you will be directly helping to support the local children to gain an education and helping to assist the local people to become more self sustainable. 100% of your donation will go to the SHCC and Kro Bei Riel community, there are no corporate overheads.

Day 1 (L/D)

Itinerary

Transfer from your hotel in Siem Reap to Kro Bei Riel village. You will then have free time to meet the student tour guides from the village, the student tour guides are all students at Self Help Community Centre (SHCC). You will then be shown around SHCC.

Next is a tour around the local area by bicycle, walking or traditional oxcart, taking in the beautiful scenery, exploring farm land, and visiting the local market, Pagoda and crocodile farm. A traditional lunch will be provided by the SHCC, followed by a basic Khmer cooking lesson. Finally a visit to the local primary school followed by your choice of a project to be involved in that is currently on offer at Self Help Community Centre . The evening will be free to spend watching the sunset.

Activities	Vegetable Farming, Animal Farming, Basket Weaving, Local Market Trading, Pagoda, Crocodile Farm, Self Help Community Centre.
8:00 - 9:30 am	Arrive at Self Help Community Centre for orientation.
9:00 - 10:00am	Travel to the local market see how they sell and buy local food.
10:00 - 11:30am	Walk around the village and see how local people live, see basket weaving, Cambodian rice wine and the village school run by SHCC.
11:30 - 12:30	Learn how to cook a Khmer traditional lunch, then relax after lunch
12:30 - 13:00pm	Ride bicycle back to Self Help Community Centre
13:00- 14:00pm	Walk to the other villages to learn to care for the animals (pigs, cows, ducks, chickens).
14:00- 16:00pm	Travel from the farm by oxcart to another family farm and onto the Pagoda.
16;00- 18:00pm	Travel home and watch the beautiful sunset over the amazing landscape.
18:00pm- 19:00pm	Prepare and eat a traditional Cambodian dinner. Cooking lessons are available on request.
19:00pm- 20:00pm	Free time in the evening, spend time playing with children, watching TV. Have a Cambodian scoop shower
10:00pm	Bedtime

Day 2 (B/L/D)

11am – 1pm	Lunch break – traditional lunch at home with the family, some time to relax. Then transfer from your homestay to your hotel in Siem Reap by air-conditioned bus. Afternoon spent in town, shopping and visiting the markets in Siem Reap.

Accommodation

Accommodation whilst at the home stay is provided by local Cambodian families, facilities will consist of a bed and mosquito net, a Cambodian scoop shower and basic out door toilet. There is no mains electricity in the community, so any electricity is provided by battery, guests should come prepared with batteries for torches and be aware that charging of mobile phones, cameras, and Mp3’s etc may not be possible. It is possible to purchase solar powered chargers if preferred.
